By the time you finish reading this, TJ Dillashaw will have won his rematch against Demetrious Johnson, sealing the UFC flyweight title in the process. While not a bad feat, Dillashaw’s fight against reigning kingpin Demetrious Johnson was not a barnburner. The fight was close, but not close enough to truly stand out. The same could be said for the UFC 229 main card, which featured a lot of good fights, but not a lot of action.
It’s that time of the year again when the UFC is in Chicago, with the preliminary card for UFC 217 happening this Saturday. I’ve been a long time UFC fan and it’s hard to believe I’ve waited this long to see the main event, and boy is it a good one. I have been a long time fan of both fighters involved and have been waiting for this fight for a while.
There is a lot of talk about the upcoming UFC Fight Night: Dillashaw vs. S. Sandhagen on January 28, 2018 in Newark, New Jersey. This time it is the turn of the UFC’s Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw to fight former UFC Bantamweight Champion, and the current UFC Bantamweight #1 contender, and former World Champion Cody Garbrandt. This fight is a big one for the future of the UFC as TJ Dillashaw has been an excellent fighter for the UFC but never won a title. A win for TJ Dillashaw would make him the first man to hold both the UFC Bantamweight and UFC Flyweight belts. A win for Cody Garbrandt would make him a
The date for UFC Vegas 32 has been announced, and it should be a fantastic night of fighting. The prelims air on ESPN at 4 p.m. Eastern, followed by the Main Card on ESPN+ at 7 p.m. Cory Sandhagen and TJ Dillashaw should have a fantastic Bantamweight battle in the main event. It’s time for another prediction and selection in our UFC odds series.
Sandhagen is coming off a two-fight winning run in which he knocked out Marlon Moraes and Frankie Edgar in consecutive fights. In his past five bouts, he’s gone 4-1, with his lone defeat coming at the hands of current Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling. Sandhagen is aiming for another win and a championship chance in the near future.
Dillashaw hasn’t fought since testing positive for an illegal substance in 2019. His ban is now over, and he’s hoping for a huge victory on Saturday night to get his career back on track. The former champion is on his way back to the top, but he’ll have to prove himself against one of the UFC’s best fighters.
The odds for the evening’s main event have been set as follows by the bookmakers.
Cory Sandhagen vs. TJ Dillashaw odds at UFC Vegas 32
Sandhagen, Cory (-215)
(+185) TJ Dillashaw
(+135) over 3.5 rounds
3.5 rounds or less (-165)
Cory Sandhagen’s strategy for winning the battle
Cory Sandhagen has a small advantage in this encounter since he has been more active lately. He’s been dominant since joining the UFC in 2018, and a victory against Dillashaw may earn him a championship chance. Sandhagen has a few advantages that he will use in this battle versus Dillashaw, and if he takes use of them, he should win.
He has a four-inch height advantage and a three-inch reach advantage going into this bout. Sandhagen is a well-known striker who is facing a wrestler. The strategy will be to maintain his distance and use accurate blows to dismantle his opponent. Sandhagen’s greatest friend will be the jab, as it will allow him to hold Dillashaw at bay throughout the fight. Sandhagen is expected to enter the battle with a calm demeanor and keep the fight going. This is where Sandhagen has the upper hand in this contest.
TJ Dillashaw’s strategy for winning the bout
This will be Dillashaw’s first fight since January of this year. He hasn’t fought in the octagon in over two years, so there’s a chance he’ll be rusty going into this fight. Even yet, before his suspension, Dillashaw was one of the greatest fighters in the world. We’ve seen boxers return from lengthy layoffs previously, so Dillashaw should be alright entering the ring.
Dillashaw is a wrestler, but he’s also a multi-talented individual. Regardless, his strategy should be to get it on the mat as quickly as feasible. It will be tough for Dillashaw to compete given his opponent’s height and reach advantage. Taking it to the ground evens things out since size doesn’t matter as much in MMA. His best strategy will be to use leg kicks and body counterpunches to break past Sandhagen’s jab. We should see Dillashaw clinch it up or try a takedown once he has his opponent thinking.
Cory Sandhagen-TJ Dillashaw prediction & pick
This is a classic striker vs. wrestler battle that should be thrilling from start to finish. These two combatants are almost diametrically opposed, so it’ll be fascinating to watch how this plays out. Sandhagen will try all he can to keep the battle standing, but Dillashaw is a world-class wrestler who can take the fight to the ground with his relentless takedowns. The chances suggest the fight will finish early, and if it does, it will almost certainly be a knockout. Cory Sandhagen should be able to win convincingly in UFC Vegas 32, owing to his previous success.
SANDHAGEN-DILLASHAW FINAL PREDICTION: Cory Sandhagen wins by KO/TKO in the fourth round.
In the UFC, the fighter who needs the most convincing to make the fight is usually the one who is against it. Sandhagen has been a UFC fan favorite for a while now, but he’s not exactly an up-and-comer on the UFC scene. Dillashaw is, though. He’s the current UFC Bantamweight champion and was the last champion to be crowned by the promotion in the weight class. He also has a record of 18-2-0. With some drama, this fight could go to either fighter, but I think Dillashaw is the safer bet.. Read more about cory sandhagen vs tj dillashaw card and let us know what you think.
